Project 3: Wiring

Posted: October 11, 2012 in Uncategorized

I’m not sure if I mentioned this yet or not, but our home still has push button light switches. Yes, that’s right. I actually didn’t even know they existed until I moved into this home. We are also fortunate enough to have some fancy lighting in our closets that you turn on by screwing in the light bulb. I know you’re jealous! While this is all fine and dandy, the bigger issue is that we have only three outlets for four rooms upstairs. It has become a jungle of extension cords in my home, and I am a little concerned that we might end up burning the house down. So, wiring is high on the list of a million projects.

The first step we took was to map the power sources to the breaker box. The previous owners had a great philosophy for their renovation projects – poke a hole in the wall and pick the closest wire. That is probably why we have outlets in the kitchen on the same breaker as all the outlets upstairs. There are also random outlets connected to each other throughout the house. So, the first step we have taken in the wiring expedition is to map the breaker box.
